Summary:As
the curtain rises, Hannah hesitantly steps onto the stage for her theatrical
debut in college. Yet before her first lines, she collapses. Countless medical
tests all point to one underlying factor: Hannah's difficult birth. This
revelation is nothing compared to discovering that she was actually adopted...
after a failed abortion attempt. Bewildered, angered and confused, Hannah
embarks on a journey with Jason, her oldest friend. In the midst of her
incredible journey to discover her hidden past and find hope for her unknown
future, Hannah sees that life can be so much more than what you have planned.

THE HUNGER GAMES pg13
Based on the best-selling young-adult novel by author Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games tells the dark
tale of a 16-year-old girl named Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), who is selected to compete in
a vicious televised tournament in which 24 teenagers from a post-apocalyptic
society fight to the death for the entertainment of the masses. In the future,
North America is no more. In its place has risen Panem, a divided nation split
into 12 districts. Every year, each district selects a teen of each gender
(called "Tributes") to test their worth in a competition known as the Hunger
Games, which are broadcast across the nation as entertainment, and to reinforce
the government's total power. When her younger sister is selected as District
12's latest "Tribute," Katniss volunteers to take her place, and trains under
hard-drinking former Hunger Games champion Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson) to sharpen her killer instincts.
Now in order to survive the game and emerge the victor, this young combatant
must put all of her skills to the ultimate test.

Bennett Miller's adaptation of Michael Lewis' non-fiction best seller Moneyball stars Brad Pitt as Billy Beane, a one-time phenom who flamed out in the big leagues and now works as the GM for the Oakland Athletics, a franchise that's about to lose their three best players to free agency. Because the team isn't in a financial position to spend as much as perennial favorites like the Yankees and the Red Sox, Beane realizes he needs to radically change how he evaluates what players can bring to the squad. After he meets Peter Brand (Jonah Hill), an Ivy League economics major working as an executive assistant for scouting on another team, Beane realizes he's found the man who understands how to subvert the system of assessing players that's been in place for nearly a century. However, as the duo begin to acquire players that seem too old, injured, or inept to play major-league baseball, they face stiff resistance from both the A's longtime scouts and the team's manager Art Howe (Philip Seymour Hoffman), who outright refuses to allow Beane's more-nontraditional acquisitions to play. Moneyball screened at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival

- Summary: Mississippi during the 1960s: Skeeter, a southern society girl, returns from college determined to become a writer, but turns her friends' lives--and a small Mississippi town--upside down when she decides to interview the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern families. Aibileen, Skeeter's best friend's housekeeper, is the first to open up—to the dismay of her friends in the tight-knit black community. Despite Skeeter's life-long friendships hanging in the balance, she and Aibileen continue their collaboration and soon more women come forward to tell their stories—and as it turns out, they have a lot to say. Along the way, unlikely friendships are forged and a new sisterhood emerges, but not before everyone in town has a thing or two to say themselves when they become unwittingly—and unwillingly—caught up in the changing times. MOVIE: BUCK
Summary: Buck, a richly textured and visually stunning film, follows Brannaman from his abusive childhood to his phenomenally successful approach to horses. A real-life “horse-whisperer”, he eschews the violence of his upbringing and teaches people to communicate with their horses through leadership and sensitivity, not punishment. Buck possesses near magical abilities as he dramatically transforms horses – and people – with his understanding, compassion and respect. In this film, the animal-human relationship becomes a metaphor for facing the daily challenges of life. A truly American story about an unsung hero, BUCK is about an ordinary man who has made an extraordinary life despite tremendous odds. (Sundance Selects)

COWBOYS AND ALIENS PG13
Based on the graphic novel by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, Cowboys & Aliens is set in 1800s Arizona, where the local cowboys, headed by gunslinger Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig), and the indigenous Apache tribe have been feuding fiercely for quite a while. Their skirmish is interrupted, however, by the appearance of a spaceship, commanded by an alien creature that's bent on enslaving the human race. It's time for a six-gun shoot-out between these cattle rustlers and space invaders, and there might even be a temporary peace between the cowboys and Indians as they both take aim at these extraterrestrial uninvited guests. Jon Favreau directs from a script by Star Trek scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, with help from Lost's Damon Lindelof. Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford, and Sam Rockwell fill out the headlining cast. ~ Cammila Albertson, Rovi

In Memoriam, New York City 9/11/01 on DVD By Jim Bray
HBO’s documentary of that horrible day in the late summer of 2001 brings the massacre and its aftermath right into your home theater, and in the process is virtually guaranteed to both move and anger the audience.
The program is made up of footage of then-New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who had a camera crew with him on what was supposed to be a fairly slow day for him, relatively speaking. It’s augmented by interviews after the fact with Giuliani and his advisors, as well as with spectacular footage of the day’s events as they happened, collected from scores of amateur and professional photographers and videographers who were in the right (or is it wrong?) place at the right (or is it wrong?) time.
This is an emotional, visceral experience as we once again see the hijacked airliners-cum-missiles attack the World Trade Center -

This review is from: CNN Tribute - America Remembers (DVD)
CNN's DVD "America Remembers" is without a doubt the best document produced thus far on the events of September 11th, 2001. There should be copies in every school library across the country to remember the events of this day in the United States.
The story begins, of course, in the CNN newsroom and the first airline crash in the north tower of the World Trade Center. The rest of the DVD is an incredible and very detailed timeline regarding the other plane crashes (in NYC, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C.), the collapse of the World Trade Center towers, the evacuation of various buildings in D.C., President Bush's story on that day, the days following 9/11 including the president's speeches, the buildup to war in Afghanistan in subsequent months, and even the threat of Anthrax in the United States.
If you must witness this story again, especially on the anniversary of 9/11, it might as well be thorough and accurate. This is the production to see.

The film shows an eight-minute drive through Paris in the early hours of the morning (05:30hrs), accompanied by sounds of a high-reving engine, gear changes and squealing tires. It starts in a tunnel of the Paris Périphérique at Porte Dauphine, with an onboard view from an unseen car exiting up on a ramp (and from there following this route) to Avenue Foch. Well-known landmarks such as the Arc de Triomphe, Opéra Garnier, and Place de la Concorde with its obelisk are passed, as well as the Champs-Élysées. Pedestrians are passed, pigeons sitting on the streets are scattered, red lights are ignored, one-way streets are driven up the wrong way, center lines are crossed, the car drives on the sidewalk to avoid a rubbish truck. The car is never seen as the camera seems to be attached below the front bumper (judging from the relative positions of other cars, the visible headlight beam and the final shot when the car is parked in front of a curb on Montmartre, with the famous Sacré Cœur Basilica behind, and out of shot). Here, the driver gets out and embraces a young blonde woman as bells ring in the background, with the famous backdrop of Paris.

- Starring: Andy Serkis, Freida Pinto, James Franco
- Summary: Rise of the Apes is an origin story in the truest sense of the term. Set in present day San Francisco, the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.
